The Artistic Concept of Romen Ohanyan

My art explores the moment when the artist ceases to be merely an executor and becomes the architect of an artistic system.

I view art as a space in which an idea can transition from one language to another: from music to color, from mathematics to form, from word to image, from personal experience to a work, from human intention to digital tool.

For this reason, what matters to me is not so much a particular style, but rather the principle of constructing a work and the system of relationships underlying it.

Fractal Cubism explores structure and self-similarity of form. Audio Coloristics translates musical harmony into a visual language. NeoHand Art forms a new way of interaction between the artist and artificial intelligence. Apo-Techne liberates artistic resolution from the obligatory requirement of virtuosic manual execution. Social works use image and title as tools for reflection on man and society. Ekphrasis becomes an extension of painting, allowing the work to exist simultaneously in visual and verbal space.

Landscape occupies a special place in this system. It is not merely an image of nature nor an aspiration toward decorative beauty. My landscapes are visual diaries of the road, expeditions, and personal experience. A place becomes a work through the time experienced by the artist: the road, a hard-to-reach territory, mountains, a river, an abandoned village, or a shore become part of an artistic biography. The landscape becomes a testimony of a person’s encounter with space.

Museum Without Walls continues this idea at the level of the work’s existence. I explore the possibility of liberating art from its obligatory attachment to physical exhibition space. If a work can be convincingly placed into a museum or residential interior by means of digital art, a new type of exhibition gesture emerges: the artist himself creates the context for the presence of his work. In this way, the museum ceases to be exclusively a building and becomes an artistic concept.

The next step is the creation of an environment in which art exists not only as an individual practice. One’s Own Workshop views artists as a horizontal creative community, where collaboration, exchange of experience, real commissions, joint exhibitions, and mutual support are important. Here, the artist becomes not only the author of a work but also the creator of an artistic environment.

All these directions are united by one idea: the artist creates not only an image but also a system, a space, and the conditions for the emergence of art.

Therefore, my practice develops simultaneously in several directions: from painting and landscape to conceptual artistic systems, digital art, poetry, performance, and collective projects.

I explore the boundaries between man and tool, the original and its digital presence, nature and its depiction, the artist and the viewer, individual creativity and community.

The Codex of One Thousand sets the ultimate human measure for this path. A limited number of works transforms creativity from endless production into a conscious life process, where each work becomes part of a single evolution.

Thus, my art exists at the intersection of painting, conceptual thinking, mathematics, music, language, travel, digital technologies, and social practice.

I create not only works. I create ways, spaces, and systems in which art can arise, exist, and develop.

My task is to expand the space of the possible for the artist, while preserving for man the essential: intention, choice, responsibility, and the right to determine what exactly is art.
